Debit and ATM cards are a wonderful convenience.  Using debit and ATM cards makes it easier than ever to make purchases and payments, but it also makes it easier to overdraw a checking account and incur fees associated with overdraft protection services.  As a result, the Federal Government has created new rules governing overdraft protection programs that go into effect on July 1, 2010.  An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway.

The new regulation requires us to obtain your approval before we consider payment of your debit card purchases that may create an overdraft in your checking account.  We currently provide this service to you as part of our Overdraft Privilege (ODP) Program.  The majority of our members prefer having this service to avoid the embarrassment of having their debit card purchases denied at the grocery store checkout line, at the pharmacy when paying for prescriptions, or at a restaurant when paying the bill.

To continue receiving the same level of service that you have grown accustomed to on your checking account, you'll need to click on the above attached form, print, complete and return to any office.  You may come by any office to complete the form also.  Please remember that your prompt action is required so your service is not disrupted.  If you do not complete the form, your everyday debit card transactions that overdraw your account will not be authorized after August 15, 2010 - even in an emergency.

There is NO CHARGE for this service unless you use it.  We appreciate having you as a member.  If you have any questions, regarding this change, please call 423-283-4300.
